Hogwarts Legacy: Secrets of the Restricted Section Walkthrough
In this walkthrough, we will cover the eighth Main Quest in the game, called Secrets of the Restricted Section. The quest involves sneaking into the Restricted Section of the library with the help of Sebastian Sallow and uncovering deeper mysteries.
To begin the quest, you need to complete Professor Hecat’s Assignment 1. Once you have learned the Incendio spell from Professor Hecat, return to Professor Fig’s classroom.
However, before you can depart for the library, Headmaster Black interrupts and summons Fig away. With the trip delayed, you must find and speak with Sebastian Sallow, who supposedly knows a way into the Forbidden Section.
Talking to Sebastian, you explain the situation, and he agrees to keep the secret and help you out. He asks you to meet him outside the library later that night. Do so, meet him in the Central Hall, and he’ll point out the door you need to speak to. Sebastian will also teach you the Disillusionment charm via another spell-learning mini-game, which will turn you invisible.
The first objective in this quest is to learn the Disillusionment charm via the spell-learning minigame. Successfully complete it to learn and cast Disillusionment, assign it to a slot, cast it, and descend down the steps. Using the tutorials, be sure to avoid detection from the prefects roaming the halls.
As you enter through the door, down the stairs into the library, take cover behind the bookcase on the left. After the cutscene, wait for Sebastian to cause a distraction, luring the librarian away, before moving forward and looting her desk for the key. Then proceed to the locked Restricted Section gate and unlock it.
Once you are in the Restricted Section, move forward down the steps to receive a tutorial on distracting enemies. Use your Basic Cast and your aiming function to hit the armor stand to the left of the bottom of the stairs to lure the first ghost over, then loop around the opposite side to proceed. Carefully maneuver around ahead to evade a second ghost, then go down the stairs beyond.
Once at the bottom, you are safe from detection and can move freely. As you descend into the storage area, you can use Levioso to get a Field Guide page from the statue and also loot a number of small chests for a wand handle and some other items.
The book you are looking for is on the floor below, but first, you will need to sneak by two ghosts. Use the suit of armor as a distraction and then carry on forward. On the next floor down, you are in the clear, so remove the Disillusionment charm and follow the linear path.
Unfortunately, you’ll bump into Peeves at the end of the corridor, which will force Sebastian to leave your side. Continue on by casting Reparo on the suit of armor, then follow the staircase down to find some magic to interact with. Now go through the magical doorway in front of you.
To progress to the other side of the chasm, use a Basic Cast on the symbol above the big doorway in front of you. Some enemies will confront you in the next two rooms, then use Basic Cast again on the symbol ahead to get closer to the objective. This bridge collapses on you as you move across, so make sure you’re sprinting and be ready to jump. In the third room, get onto the moving bridge, then shoot the symbol to have the second part of the path appear. In the final room, you’ll defeat more statues.
After defeating the statues in the final room, approach the pedestal at the end of the room. On top of the pedestal, you’ll find a large crystal. Interact with the crystal to complete the puzzle and unlock the secret area.
Once you’ve unlocked the secret area, you’ll be able to explore and discover what lies within. It’s important to note that some secret areas may contain valuable loot, so be sure to keep an eye out for any hidden treasures. Additionally, secret areas can often lead to hidden paths or shortcuts that can make navigating the game world easier.
In some cases, completing secret areas or puzzles may also unlock achievements or trophies, depending on the game you’re playing. These achievements can often be viewed from the game’s main menu or on your console’s dashboard.
