Netflix has made a major reveal for its highly anticipated second season of the ‘One Piece’ live-action series, announcing the casting of key Baroque Works antagonists.
The streaming giant confirmed that David Dastmalchian, known for his roles in ‘The Dark Knight’ and ‘The Suicide Squad,’ will portray Galdino, also known as Mr. 3, in the upcoming season.
This casting news comes alongside the announcement of three other pivotal roles within Baroque Works.
Joining Dastmalchian are Jazzara Jaslyn as Mikita, alias Ms. Valentine, Cameron Johnson as Gem, or Mr. 5, and Daniel Lasker as Mr. 9. These actors are set to bring to life some of the most iconic characters from Eiichiro Oda’s beloved manga and its subsequent adaptations.
Joe Tracz, co-executive producer of ‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians,’ will serve as a writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner alongside Matt Owens, known for his work on ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ and ‘Luke Cage.’ Steve Maeda, who co-developed the series and served as co-showrunner for the first season, remains involved as an executive producer.
The ‘One Piece’ live-action series, a collaboration between Netflix and Tomorrow Studios (‘Cowboy Bebop’ live-action, ‘Snowpiercer’), debuted its first season in August 2023 to critical acclaim. Season one consisted of eight episodes and marked Netflix’s ambitious adaptation of Oda’s expansive universe.
Based on the enduring manga that launched in 1997 under Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump, ‘One Piece’ has since become a global phenomenon, spawning an animated series, films, and numerous other adaptations. The Netflix adaptation aims to capture the essence of Oda’s world while introducing new dimensions through its live-action format.
Filming for ‘One Piece’ Season 2 commenced in June 2024, with an expected premiere slated for 2025. Fans of the series and newcomers alike can anticipate further updates as production progresses.
Stay tuned to Netflix for more updates on the ‘One Piece’ live-action series as it continues to unfold the adventures of Luffy and his crew in their quest for the fabled One Piece treasure.
